Barton Creek Greenbelt
Barton Creek Greenbelt is one of many hiking trails located within the city limits of Austin. It has been the nicest weather here in Austin, and on any given day, you will see Austinites out and about enjoying the sunshine. One of my clients asked about where to take his dog for a walk. Barton Creek Greenbelt immediately came to mind, so I thought I’d share a blog about this great spot!
The city has a website containing more information and maps, but here are a few of my favorite points:
These dirt trails weave between trees and follow along water, which make it perfect for dogs. There are plenty of rock boulders for kids to climb and it’s shaded to protect during the hot summer months.
You will find college students and families trekking in their swim suits, looking for swimming holes along the hiking path. Especially when Texas has it’s humid and hot summer days, this place is packed full of happy swimmers. The Greenbelt also runs you near Deep Eddy Pool and Barton Springs, which are 2 of Austin’s watering hole gems. With the small park train, snow cones and cafe, Barton Springs is a great place to bring the family after a long hike on the trail.
Even though the trails can often times get busy, this is a great option for mountain biking. It’s easy, yet challenging with the boulders and slight hills along the way.
The limestone rocks range from 20-70 feet, with numerous climbing levels . It’s hard to believe that right in the middle of our city, we have rock climbing!
AllTrails has a good map on the best places to bird watch.
The fun thing about the Greenbelt, is the location. You can make a whole day of exploring. There are plenty of restaurants and things to do right off the Greenbelt, or just take your backpack and enjoy!
